What FE 51 Means

FE 51 belongs to a band running from FE 51 to FE 55, each covering one cooking zone. Miele’s documented causes are a defective PTC sensor for that zone, a contact problem at its plug, or a problem in the power electronics — in that order.

Common Causes of FE 51

  • PTC temperature sensor for that zone defective
  • Plug contact to the sensor loose or corroded
  • Power electronics driving that zone failing
  • Sensor lead damaged under the hob

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

With the cooktop cool, check that the affected zone is clean and that nothing has been left sitting on it. Then note whether that zone has stopped heating entirely or heats erratically, because a dead zone and a wandering one point at different items on Miele’s list.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Miele’s remedy explicitly includes disconnecting and reconnecting the supply before condemning the power electronics, which is the kind of step that is easy to skip and expensive to skip.
  • A contact problem and a dead sensor look the same from the cooking surface, and only one of them needs a part.
  • The sensor sits beneath the glass against the zone itself, so access means lifting the hob out of the worktop.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
