What FE 86 Means
FE 86 follows the same diagnostic path Miele lays out for FE 85, but on the right-hand side of the appliance: the connections to the right power electronics, the parts it drives, and the thermal conditions it is working in.
Common Causes of FE 86
- Connection between the control electronics and the right power electronics damaged
- PTC sensor or zone part on the right side failing
- Right power electronics module failing
- Heat building up under the appliance because airflow is restricted
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Work out which half of the cooktop is affected and say so when you book — a problem confined to the right-hand zones matches this code neatly and confirms the technician is looking at the right module before the appliance is even lifted.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Wider Miele cooktops carry more than one power electronics module, so the part needed depends on identifying which one is reporting — not just on the code number.
- A hob has to come out of its worktop cut-out to reach anything underneath, and that is a two-person lift on a bonded glass panel.
- If heat is the underlying cause, replacing a module without fixing the airflow simply starts the clock again on the new one.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Code meanings can change between control generations. Before acting on a code, match the full model number on your appliance's rating label against the manual for that model. We are an independent repair service, not affiliated with Miele & Cie. KG.
