What FE 31 Means

FE 31 is an electrical supply code. Miele’s documentation lists a missing L2 phase conductor first, then a missing neutral bridge between terminals 4 and 5 at the right power electronic, then a problem in the electronics themselves, then a defective ribbon cable between the filter/control electronics and the power electronics.

Common Causes of FE 31

  • One phase conductor not present at the appliance
  • Neutral bridge between terminals 4 and 5 missing at the right power electronics
  • Power or filter electronics failing
  • Ribbon cable between the electronics damaged

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Turn the cooktop off at the consumer unit before anything else. Then check whether part of the hob had already stopped working before this code appeared — a cooktop that lost half its zones and then threw FE 31 is telling a consistent story about a missing supply conductor.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • A missing phase or neutral is a fixed-wiring matter on an appliance connected directly to the consumer unit, which is electrician territory rather than DIY.
  • The bridge Miele refers to is inside the appliance at the terminal block, so identifying whether it is present at all means opening the cooktop’s underside.
  • Running a multi-phase cooktop with a conductor missing puts the remaining supply under strain and is not something to work around.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

FE 31 FAQ

We would not advise it. A supply problem that takes out part of the cooktop can be loading what is left in ways you cannot see.

They are related supply codes but opposite in nature — FE 35 is documented as low voltage, while FE 31 is about a conductor being absent altogether.
