What F55 Means
F55 on a Miele dryer is recorded as an overriding time limit being exceeded, and Miele traces it to something very specific: a short circuit at the drum contact strip, where a metal bracket is touching the drum casing. The sign owners notice is simply that cycles take far too long.
Common Causes of F55
- Metal bracket in contact with the drum casing, shorting the contact strip
- Moisture sensing disrupted so the dryer never registers the load as dry
- Contact strip worn or contaminated
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Nothing can be done from outside, but the observation matters: note how long cycles are actually taking and whether the laundry eventually dries or the machine simply runs on. Miele’s documentation names excessively long operating duration as the sign, and that is what you can report.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Miele’s remedy is an insulating sleeve of a specific part number fitted around the bracket — a precise, documented fix rather than a general repair.
- The drum contact strip is part of how the dryer senses residual moisture, so getting at it means opening the drum area with the machine isolated.
- A dryer that runs far longer than it should is consuming a great deal of electricity and putting unnecessary hours on its own heating circuit.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
