What F115 Means
F115, displayed as F 01 15, is the refrigerator evaporator NTC reported failing. This sensor reads the coldest metal in the fridge circuit rather than the air, and the control relies on it to know when the evaporator has iced up and needs defrosting.
Common Causes of F115
- Evaporator NTC failed or out of tolerance
- Sensor clip displaced so it is no longer reading the coil
- Wiring damaged where it passes through the insulation
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Look at the back wall inside the fridge section. A thin film of frost that appears and disappears is normal; a thick, persistent build-up that never clears is the visible consequence of a defrost cycle that is no longer being timed properly.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The sensor is clipped directly to the evaporator, alongside the sealed refrigerant circuit — a screwdriver in the wrong place there turns a sensor job into a sealed-system job.
- A sensor that has simply come away from the coil reads air instead of metal and looks identical to a failed one until it is inspected.
- Ice built up over weeks has to be cleared properly before the appliance will behave normally again, and forcing it off damages the fins.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
