What F02 Means
F02 is the open-circuit counterpart of F01: the NTC temperature sensor or its connections have gone open rather than shorted. Miele’s documentation records the same behavior — the heating switches off after roughly ten seconds while the program continues. It is not a water-intake code; intake problems are F10 for insufficient intake and F15 for insufficient hot water.
Common Causes of F02
- NTC sensor failed open
- Break in the sensor lead, often where it flexes with the tub
- Plug not making contact at the electronics
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Put a hand on the outside of the machine mid-cycle on a hot program. A washer that heats properly warms the casing noticeably; one that never does is consistent with the sensor circuit being open.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- An open circuit may be the sensor, the lead or the plug, and Miele’s service-mode check measures the whole run rather than assuming the end of it.
- The heating circuit runs at full mains current in the base of a machine that also holds water, which is the wrong place for exploratory work.
- Cold washing week after week leaves a residue film in the drum and the outlet, which is a second problem to clear once the first is fixed.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
