What F50 Means
F50 is the dryer reporting that the drum drive stalled while the heater was still on for more than three seconds. That combination — heat applied to a load that is not tumbling — is exactly what the dryer is designed to prevent, which is why it cuts in rather than persevering.
Common Causes of F50
- Drum drive motor failed or stalling under load
- Drive belt slipping, stretched or broken
- Item of laundry jammed between the drum and the casing
- Control/power electronics no longer driving the motor correctly
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the dryer off at the socket before opening the door, then take the load out and check whether the drum turns freely by hand. A garment that has worked its way between the drum and the casing is a common and completely mechanical cause.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Heat applied to stationary laundry is the condition dryer fires start from, and a machine that has done it once should not be asked to do it again before the cause is found.
- Miele’s procedure checks the drive before condemning the electronics, and the two failures look identical from outside a closed drum.
- Getting to the drive and the belt means opening the casing of a machine that carries both a heating circuit and, on heat-pump models, a sealed refrigerant system.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
