What F11 Means

F11 is the mirror image of F10: the fill-level electrode is giving a constant fill signal, so as far as the control electronics are concerned the steam generator never empties. Miele’s technical documentation lists blocked drain hoses, a feed pump that runs continuously, a defective level electrode, a drain valve stuck closed, and heavy limescale as the causes behind it.

Common Causes of F11

  • Drain hoses blocked
  • Feed pump running continuously instead of cycling
  • Fill-level electrode reporting a permanent water signal
  • Drain valve stuck in the closed position

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Let the appliance cool fully first — a steam generator holds water near boiling point. Once it is cold, run the descaling routine in your handbook if the oven has been asking for one, since Miele’s own service note for this problem is that badly scaled generators need two descaling tablets rather than one.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Water that will not leave the generator is water sitting in a heated vessel, and getting to the valve or the pump means working inside an appliance that has just been at steam temperature.
  • A permanently wet electrode and a permanently closed valve produce the same code, and only a service-mode test separates them.
  • Miele replaces the level electrode as part of the steam generator, so a wrong call here is an expensive part rather than a cheap one.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F11 FAQ

Standing water in a warm generator is exactly the condition that breeds smell and scale, which is why the oven flags it rather than simply carrying on.

Yes. Miele’s service note for F11 specifically covers generators scaled badly enough that the standard single-tablet descale no longer clears them.
