What F242 Means
F242 is the touchscreen equivalent of F241: on M Touch models, communication to the touchscreen controller on the control electronics is defective or open-circuited. Miele’s remedy is again a replacement control electronics module.
Common Causes of F242
- Touchscreen controller on the control electronics failed
- Internal connection to the touchscreen controller open-circuited
- Repeated power interruptions leaving the interface in a bad state
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Power the oven down at the breaker, wait a couple of minutes and bring it back up — a screen that recovers and then stays healthy was a software hang rather than a hardware problem. Clean the glass with a damp cloth only, never a spray aimed at the panel.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- On an M Touch oven the screen is the only way to set or cancel a program, so a screen that has stopped answering leaves no reliable way to control the heat.
- The controller lives on the control board, so the fix is the board itself plus the setup that follows rather than a separate display part.
- Removing the fascia of a built-in oven without isolating and drawing the appliance out risks both the trim and the cabinet it sits in.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
