What F2 Means
F2 is the open-circuit form of the same error as F1 on the coffee and hot-water heater sensor. Miele’s documentation adds something genuinely useful here: a machine that has stood in a cold room can show F2 without anything being broken at all, because ambient temperatures below about 10°C push the sensor’s resistance past what the electronics can read. It is not a bean-hopper message — an empty hopper is a plain-language prompt on the display, not an F-code.
Common Causes of F2
- Machine standing in an ambient temperature below about 10°C
- Heater NTC failed open
- Break in the sensor wiring
- Connector unseated at the electronics
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If the machine lives somewhere cold — an unheated utility room, a holiday property, a garage kitchen — bring the room up to a normal temperature and leave it there for a good while before trying again. Miele states plainly that replacing the sensor will not help in that case.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Telling a cold-room false alarm from a genuinely dead sensor means measuring the NTC against Miele’s published resistance values once the machine is at normal room temperature.
- The sensor is mounted on the flow-through heater inside a built-in appliance that has to come out of its housing.
- Miele is explicit that a replacement part does not resolve the ambient-temperature case, so a parts-first approach can spend money on nothing.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
