What F8 Means
F8 indicates a drainage problem — waste water and spent grounds aren't clearing from the machine properly, which can eventually block brewing entirely if left unaddressed.
Common Causes of F8
- Full or improperly seated grounds container or drip tray
- Blocked internal drain path
- Failed drain pump (on plumbed-in models)
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Empty and rinse the drip tray and grounds container fully, and confirm both are seated correctly — an improperly seated tray is a common false trigger.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The internal drain path routes near live electronics inside the housing — disassembling it without disconnecting power first is a shock risk.
- Forcing a blocked drain clear with a tool can damage internal tubing that's not designed for that kind of pressure.
- A plumbed-in unit's drain pump carries both water and an electrical connection, making a live test especially risky.
- Misdiagnosing this as a grounds-container issue when the internal path is actually blocked means the problem returns almost immediately.
- Internal drain access on built-in models typically requires partial removal from the cabinet, which is technician work, best left to a visit.
