What F38 Means
F38 means the display/control electronics and the power electronics are not compatible with each other. It is a configuration problem rather than a breakage: the two boards in the machine are not a matched pair, which in practice almost always follows a repair.
Common Causes of F38
- A replacement board fitted that does not match the other one
- Software versions on the two boards out of step
- A board fitted without the setup step that has to follow it
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
There is nothing to adjust from the front. What matters is history — if the machine has recently had a board replaced or a software update, that is the context this code belongs to and the first thing to mention.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Matching the two boards is done with Miele’s service equipment, which is what identifies what is actually fitted rather than what should be.
- A built-in coffee machine has to come out of its cabinet housing before either board can be reached, and the housings are close-tolerance.
- Fitting a third board in the hope of a match is guesswork with a part that is not cheap.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
