What F80 Means

F80 means the coffee and hot-water heater has been switched on and the temperature is not rising — Miele’s documentation puts a figure on it: less than one degree of rise in thirty-five seconds. The machine stops rather than serve lukewarm coffee.

Common Causes of F80

  • Flow-through heater element failed
  • Heater fuse blown
  • Heater NTC misreading so the rise is never registered
  • Heavy scale insulating the heater

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Nothing inside a built-in coffee machine is a safe user job here. What is worth checking is whether the machine had been asking for descaling before this appeared, because a heavily scaled flow-through heater is a recognized route to a heating failure.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Miele’s related procedures replace the heater fuses and the NTC together, because a blown fuse often takes the sensor with it — a detail easily missed.
  • The heater is a mains-powered element inside a water circuit, which is the combination that makes coffee machines unforgiving of amateur work.
  • A built-in machine has to be drawn from its housing with its connections live until it is properly isolated.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

F80 FAQ

It is a contributing factor rather than a certainty, but scale on a flow-through heater is one of the things that shortens its life.

Switch it off until it has been looked at. There is no reason to keep energising a heating circuit that is not behaving.
