What F82 Means

F82 is an over-temperature problem on the coffee and hot-water heater: Miele’s documentation defines it as the heater staying above 170°C for two minutes. That is well past brewing temperature, which is why the machine shuts the function down rather than continuing.

Common Causes of F82

  • Heater NTC defective, so the control cannot see the real temperature
  • Heater fuse blown, which Miele notes may also have damaged the NTC
  • Heater element itself defective
  • Wiring or plug problem in the heater circuit

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Switch the machine off and leave it off. Do not keep restarting it to see whether it will make one more coffee — the problem is the machine reporting that its heater ran far hotter than it should have, and repeated attempts simply repeat that.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Miele’s documented remedy for a blown fuse is to replace both fuses and the NTC together, because the sensor is likely to have been damaged by the same event.
  • An over-temperature problem in a machine that pumps water past a heating element is not a code to reset around.
  • The specified NTC has defined resistance values at set temperatures, and fitting a sensor that does not match that curve leaves the protection ineffective.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

F82 FAQ

The machine stopped because its own protection worked. The risk is in overriding it, not in the code itself.

Miele’s own instruction is to replace the fuses and the sensor together, because a fuse rarely blows without something else having happened.
