What F17 Means
F17 is the catalyser temperature sensor — a Pt 1000 — reading open-circuit or with a resistance that is too high. The catalyser is part of how a pyrolytic Miele oven of this generation deals with what the self-clean cycle burns off, and this sensor is how the control watches it.
Common Causes of F17
- Catalyser Pt 1000 sensor failed open
- Sensor resistance drifted high with age
- Break in the sensor wiring
- Connector degraded by heat over many pyrolytic cycles
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the oven off at the breaker until it has been looked at. Note whether the last self-clean cycle completed, failed, or was abandoned, because the catalyser and its sensor sit in the same story as the pyrolytic temperature error F15.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The sensor sits in the catalyser path, reached once the oven is cool, isolated and partly dismantled on an appliance whose fixings have decades of heat behind them.
- A Pt 1000 has a defined resistance curve and a substitute sensor with a different curve simply gives a different wrong reading.
- This sensor and the pyrolytic temperature error F15 share a cause list, so the two should be read together rather than separately.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
