What F33 Means
F33 means the door lock failed to release after a self-clean (pyrolytic) cycle finished — the same position-switch check as F32, but on the release side, and the most common code seen after a self-clean gets stuck.
Common Causes of F33
- Cavity still too hot for the lock to safely release
- Failed door lock motor or solenoid
- Door lock switch misalignment
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Do not force the door open. Turn off power at the breaker for several minutes and allow the oven to fully cool — most self-clean lockouts release once internal temperature drops enough for the lock to safely disengage.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Pyrolytic cycles can reach 800-900°F, and forcing a locked door open before the cavity has cooled risks serious burns.
- If the lock still won't release after the oven has fully cooled, confirming whether it's the motor, the solenoid, or a switch issue requires testing the assembly directly.
- Repeated F33 lockouts point to a wearing mechanism, and continuing to force the issue rather than replacing the worn part risks a lockout that won't release at all.
