What F1 Means
F1 indicates a fault in the evaporator temperature sensor — the component that reads the coldest part of the cooling circuit to regulate the compressor and defrost cycle.
Common Causes of F1
- Failed or drifting evaporator sensor
- Damaged sensor wiring near the rear panel
- Excess frost buildup interfering with the sensor housing
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check that nothing inside is pressing against the rear interior wall, which can occasionally cause an inaccurate reading — if the code persists after clearing the airflow path, the sensor itself has failed.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Confirming whether this is the sensor, its wiring, or frost buildup means accessing the sealed area behind the interior wall, close to the refrigerant lines.
- Replacing the sensor when the real cause is frost buildup means the fault comes right back once the compartment refreezes.
- The sensor is wired into the cooling circuit's control logic, and disconnecting the wrong component risks leaving the compressor running without proper temperature feedback.
