What F121 Means

F121 — F 01 21 on the display — is a failing icemaker. Miele’s own documentation is emphatic that the icemaker itself is the last thing to condemn: the footnote against this code lists voltage fluctuations, a failing water inlet, low water pressure, a blocked dispenser flap and a failing ice crusher as things to rule out first.

Common Causes of F121

  • Water supply shut off, restricted or at low pressure
  • Ice fused together in the bin or jammed at the dispenser flap
  • Ice crusher mechanism jammed or failed
  • Icemaker module itself failed

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Check the simple end of that list yourself. Make sure the water supply to the appliance is turned fully on, look for ice fused into a block in the storage bin, and clear anything jammed in the dispenser flap. Those three cover a good share of the calls.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Miele’s own procedure treats the icemaker as the last suspect, and an owner who starts at the end of that list buys the most expensive part on it.
  • The icemaker is fed from the household water supply, so any work on it starts with isolating that supply properly rather than hoping.
  • The icemaker also reports its own internal sub-codes, which are only visible in service mode and change which part is actually to blame.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

F121 FAQ

On most Miele models yes, and that is a reasonable stopgap while you wait — the rest of the appliance is unaffected.

The fill is timed rather than measured, so a weak supply simply does not deliver a full mold in the time allowed.
