What F144 Means
F144 — F 01 44 — is the freezer’s first door-open warning, logged after fifteen minutes. A freezer door that stands open does not only warm the contents; it admits humid room air that turns to frost on every cold surface it touches.
Common Causes of F144
- Freezer drawer or door left open while loading
- A drawer not pushed fully back, holding the door proud
- Packaging caught in the seal
- Ice build-up in the seal channel preventing closure
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close the door and check the seal channel and the drawer fronts for a fresh crust of ice. Wipe that away while it is still soft, because once it hardens it is what stops the door sealing properly next time and starts the cycle again.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A door that will not close because of ice in the channel will keep reporting this code until the underlying frost problem is addressed.
- If the compartment frosts up faster than normal use explains, there may be a defrost or sensor problem sitting behind the door warning.
- Freezer door alignment on a built-in column has to be set with the furniture front, not just the appliance door.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
