What F11 Means
F11 means the compressor drew more current than its protection circuit allows and shut down to prevent damage — a step beyond F10's general compressor fault.
Common Causes of F11
- Failing start relay or run capacitor forcing the compressor to draw excess current
- Compressor motor windings beginning to fail
- Restricted airflow around the compressor causing it to overheat under load
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the unit for a few minutes to let the compressor's internal overload protector reset, then plug back in — if F11 returns quickly, the overload is a real, recurring fault.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Repeated overload trips risk permanently damaging compressor windings if the underlying cause isn't addressed, not just reset around.
- The compressor is part of a sealed, EPA-regulated refrigerant system, and diagnosing an overload safely means testing high-current components most homeowners aren't equipped to handle.
