What F143 Means
F143, displayed as F 01 43, is the last stage of the refrigerator door-open sequence: three quarters of an hour with the door open. By this point the appliance has effectively been ventilating the kitchen, and food safety rather than energy is the real concern.
Common Causes of F143
- Door left open for a prolonged period, often overnight or while the kitchen was unoccupied
- Door physically obstructed and unable to close
- Hinge or closer mechanism failed
- Door switch stuck open so the appliance believes the door is open when it is not
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close the door first, then work through the contents with the usual guidance in mind — chilled food held above 5°C for a prolonged period should not simply be put back and forgotten. Once it is shut, leave it closed while it recovers.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If nobody left the door open, this code means the appliance thinks it is open when it is not — and that is a switch or wiring problem worth diagnosing.
- A door that has been forty-five minutes open has usually put a good deal of moisture into the compartment, which can freeze into the seal channel and keep the problem going.
- Getting a sagging built-in door back into adjustment involves the appliance hinge and the furniture panel together, and a rushed job leaves the door binding.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
