What F11 Means
F11 in Miele’s W-series service documentation is insufficient drainage. The machine runs the drain pump and checks whether the water level has fallen far enough after 150 seconds; when it has not, the drain indicator flashes, the program ends and the pump is run for a further two minutes.
Common Causes of F11
- Drain filter blocked with debris
- Drain pump impeller jammed or the pump failed
- Drain hose kinked, crushed behind the machine or blocked
- Non-return valve or the household waste connection obstructed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the machine off at the socket first, then open the flap at the bottom front and clean the drain filter. Have a shallow tray and towels ready — there will be water behind it. Coins, hair grips, buttons and fabric fluff are what usually come out, and clearing them solves a large share of these calls.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Miele’s own checklist runs past the filter to the pump, the hose, the non-return valve and the property’s own drainage — and a blockage in the last of those is not an appliance problem at all.
- Reaching into the pump housing past the filter risks a cut from broken glass or a coin edge that has jammed the impeller.
- A pump run repeatedly against a blockage overheats, so persisting with restart attempts can turn a filter clean into a pump replacement.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
