What F6 Means
F6 on a Novotronic Miele oven means the safety cut-outs have tripped. Miele’s documented remedy is unusually simple: turn the selector switch to the “O” position, which resets the cut-out. What it does not tell you is why the cut-out tripped, and that is the part worth thinking about.
Common Causes of F6
- Genuine over-temperature event in the cavity
- Cooling air path blocked so heat built up around the controls
- Thermostat or control no longer switching the elements off
- Safety cut-out itself weak and tripping early
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Let the oven cool completely with the door closed before touching the controls, then turn the selector to “O” as Miele’s own remedy specifies. If the oven then works normally and never does it again, it was a one-off. If it trips repeatedly, stop using it and book a visit.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A cut-out that has done its job once is information; a cut-out that keeps doing it means something upstream is letting the oven run hot.
- Resetting repeatedly without finding the cause is exactly what a safety cut-out exists to prevent.
- On an oven of this age the cut-out, the thermostat and the wiring to them have all had decades of heat cycling, and which one has given way needs measuring.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
