What F14 Means

Both Miele service documents word F14 as a water intake problem referred to the heater pressure switch. During the fill step the machine looks to that switch to confirm the water has reached the level it expects over the heater, and F14 is what it records when that confirmation does not arrive. It sits in the intake family alongside F12, F13 and F15 rather than in the heating family.

Common Causes of F14

  • Water supply restricted so the expected level is never reached
  • Inlet filter or valve limiting the fill
  • Heater pressure switch or its pressure chamber blocked
  • Leak or drain problem letting water away as fast as it comes in

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Check the supply first: the isolating valve fully open, the fill hose not kinked behind the machine, and the mesh filter in the hose coupling clear of scale. Then clean the filter combination in the sump, since anything that stops the base of the tub filling evenly can leave the pressure switch unsatisfied.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The code names the switch, but the cause can be anywhere between the tap and the sump, and only a measured fill separates them.
  • The pressure chamber and its hose are below the tub, reached with the machine isolated and drawn out.
  • Fitting a new intake valve when the pressure switch is blocked, or the reverse, leaves the problem exactly where it was.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

F14 FAQ

No, despite how it is sometimes described. Miele words it as a water intake problem; the heater pressure switch is simply the part that failed to confirm the level.

F12 and F13 are intake problems timed at the start and end of a step; F14 is the intake problem referred specifically to the heater pressure switch.
