What F198 Means
F198 is the open-circuit form of the same error as F197: the cooling-air Pt1000 sensor is returning no signal at all rather than an impossibly low one. Miele’s documentation prescribes replacing the same sensor.
Common Causes of F198
- Cooling-air Pt1000 sensor failed open
- Broken wire or unseated plug in the sensor circuit
- Connector corroded by moisture in the cooling duct
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clear anything stacked against the oven’s ventilation openings and leave the cabinet door or plinth vents unobstructed. Then note whether the cooling fan still runs on after cooking — whether it does or not is the single most useful thing to tell a technician about this code.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- With no cooling-air reading at all, the control has lost the feedback it uses to protect its own electronics, and that protection matters most in a built-in installation.
- The break may be in the sensor or anywhere along its wiring, so the run has to be metered rather than the sensor simply swapped.
- Getting to the duct means removing the appliance from its cabinet cut-out, which on a heavy built-in oven is a two-person job done with the circuit isolated.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
