What FE 41 Means
FE 41, and FE 42 alongside it, means the NTC sensor on the heat sink of the left-hand power electronics has failed. That sensor is how the cooktop knows whether its own switching electronics are getting too hot, and Miele’s documented remedy is to replace that power electronics module.
Common Causes of FE 41
- Heat-sink NTC on the left power electronics failed
- Sustained high-power use with restricted ventilation beneath the hob
- Connection to the sensor damaged by heat cycling
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check that the cooktop can breathe. The ventilation gap beneath a hob is often blocked by a drawer that has been filled too high or by packaging pushed into the cabinet during a kitchen tidy — worth clearing regardless of what is wrong with the sensor.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Miele supplies the sensor as part of the power electronics module rather than as a separate item, so this is a board replacement done to a documented procedure.
- A cooktop that has lost its heat-sink temperature reading has lost one of its own thermal protections, which is not a good state for an appliance under a glass top.
- Access is from underneath the hob inside the cabinet, with the fixed wiring isolated first.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
