What F63 Means
Both Miele service documents record F63 as a slide shutter problem. The slide shutter is the moving element in the machine’s water path that Miele’s own service documentation names under that term, and F63 is the general error code for it. It is not a door or door-lock code — Miele gives door locking its own numbers, F32, F33 and F36.
Common Causes of F63
- Slide shutter jammed by debris in the water path
- Slide shutter drive failed
- Wiring to the shutter assembly damaged
- Residue build-up restricting the shutter’s travel
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clean the filter combination and check the sump for anything hard that could have jammed a moving part in the water path — a fragment of glass, a fruit stone, a piece of a cocktail stick. That is the only part of this a user can safely reach.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The assembly sits inside the machine’s water path below the tub, and Miele gives it three separate error codes because it fails in more than one way.
- A jam and a failed drive look identical from the front, and the machine has to be run under test to tell them apart.
- Forcing a jammed part in the water path usually breaks it rather than freeing it.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
