What F84 Means
Both documents give F84 as a slide shutter positioning problem. Where F63 is the general error for that assembly, F84 says specifically that it is not reaching or holding the position the control asked for. It is a named part problem, not the general catch-all code it has sometimes been described as.
Common Causes of F84
- Shutter obstructed part-way through its travel
- Position sensing for the shutter failed
- Drive to the shutter weak or failing
- Scale or residue restricting the shutter’s movement
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clean the filters and check the sump for debris, which is the one cause in reach. Then note whether wash results have changed in a particular way — for instance one basket cleaning noticeably worse than the other — as that is the sort of detail a positioning problem produces.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Position problems are confirmed by driving the assembly in a test and watching what it reports, which the front panel does not offer.
- The shutter lies in the water path beneath the tub, so access means dismantling in a particular order and resealing afterwards.
- Miele separates positioning from signal change for a reason, and the two need different checks.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
