What F42 Means
F42 is described in Miele’s G-series summary as a line frequency registration problem. The electronics use the mains frequency as a timing reference, and this code says the machine could not read it correctly — which points at the incoming supply or at the board that measures it.
Common Causes of F42
- Mains supply unstable or outside the expected frequency
- Appliance running from a generator or inverter rather than mains
- Power electronics unable to read the frequency reference
- Poor connection at the supply terminal
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Think about what else is on the circuit. A generator, an inverter supply, an off-grid or backup system, or a badly loaded circuit can all give a dishwasher a supply it does not recognize. On a normal mains supply, check whether other appliances on the same circuit have behaved oddly at the same time.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- This is one of the few dishwasher codes that can be a house-wiring problem rather than an appliance problem, and confirming which requires measuring the supply.
- A loose or overheating supply connection is a fire risk in its own right and is not something to inspect with the circuit live.
- Replacing the electronics on a supply that is genuinely out of specification simply damages the new board as well.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
